Welcome to Homemade Homeschoolers!

Welcome to Homemade Homeschoolers!  Thank you for stopping by!  Starting this site has
been a dream of our family for years now.  It’s our vision for this to be a bustling, friendly
community of fellow homeschoolers sharing their ideas, inspirations, needs, trials, and
joys all in one location. A place where questions will be answered and spirits uplifted.

I have been homeschooling my 3 children for 5 years now (for a full biography, please visit
the “About Us” page).  All along the way I have met women (and a few men!) who amaze me with
their creativity and ingenuity.  Innovative homemade games, awesome science experiments, fun
nature studies, neighborhood theaters, publishing family books, etc., etc.  I have known
those who would stop to examine road kill in their pursuit of scientific investigations
and those who would live as pioneers for weeks to truly delve into history.  These women
inspire me and motivate me to entwine homeschooling with “life” rather than box it in as just
one little part of it.  My greatest joy is to see my children excited and interested in learning,
having a zest for knowledge, instead of just “finishing the assignment”.

We all have a certain area or areas of our lives in which we excel.  The problem comes when
we inevitably look at another family and compare their strengths with our weaknesses.  We tear
ourselves down instead of incorporating those strengths to build us up.  My children are wonderful
at drama, art and reading.  They are well advanced and wonderfully talented.  However, I will find
that meeting or reading about a family in which the children are advanced in Math suddenly, and
shamefully, sends me plummeting into doubt.  “Mine are struggling in Math. What am I going to do!
I must be doing something wrong!  How can I be in charge of their education, I’ll ruin them!”

We’ve all done it – right?

I want this community of sharing to expose those strengths in all the wonderful families that
we can gather, and use them to buoy up our weaker areas, not knock us down!  Let’s all be inspired!!

Shelly, Homeschooling Mama
